Local authorities are the main providers of housing for people who are in need of housing and who cannot afford it from their resources.
To be considered for local authority housing in Cashel Town, you should apply to us using the following application forms. Applicants must be accepted by the local authority as being in need of housing and houses are allocated to applicants in order of priority, taking all circumstances into account. Rents are related to your ability to pay.

Housing Repairs and Maintenance
Cashel Town Council provides in excess of 150 dwellings throughout the Town of Cashel. The Housing Maintenance Section is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Town Council's Housing Estates. We ensure that houses conform to the minimum standards as set out in the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations, 1993, including :
- House in proper state of structural repair.
- Adequate ventilation in each room.
- Adequate means of heating (fireplace).
- A sink with hot and cold water supply.
- Electrical Circuits in good repair.

Rent Enquiries
As a tenant of Cashel Council, your weekly rent is assessed each year according to the total family income of your household. The incomes of every person living in your house must be disclosed and the rent is then assessed in accordance with the Differential Rent Scheme. This scheme is income related and as such means that if your income goes up then the rent goes up, if it goes down, the rent goes down accordingly. If at any stage, your household income changes, you should notify the Housing Department in order to have your rent reassessed.
Cashel Town Council gives the following options in relation to method of paying rent:
- Payment at Civic Offices Receipts Office (open from 9.00a.m to 1.00 and from 2.00p.m. to 4.00p.m.)
- Payment can be made to Rent CollectorOnline payments can be made by logging onto www.southtippcoco.ie/customasp/ereceipts/SERA-Cashel.asp
- An Post Household Budget Scheme for tenants in receipt of certain Social Welfare payments.
- Direct Debit/Standing Order through a bank account

Tenant Purchase Scheme
Tenants of a local authority house for at least one year, may apply to purchase the house which they have rented, either outright or by way of shared ownership. The price of the house will be the market value as determined by South Tipperary County Council, less discount for years of tenancy. The purchaser must fund the purchase by mortgage loan from a local authority or lending agency or from other resources.
