The objective of Cashel Town Council in regard to roads is to develop and maintain a network of public roads to cater for the ever increasing volumes of modern traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support social and economic development, with due regard for the safety and amenity of all road users.

"Public Road" means a road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for the maintenance of which lies with a road authority.

The current road network in the Cashel Town area is made up as follows;
Regional Roads (R505, R691, R692, R688, R660) Local Roads 7.6 km
There are no national roads in the Cashel Town area.

The regional roads in Cashel Town are the responsibility of South Tipperary County Council. The regional roads in Cashel Town are Main Street, Ladyswell St, Bank Place, Canopy St, Boherlough St, Camas Road, Friar St and The Green.

Cashel Town Council is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Town road network which includes all other public roads in the Town area. As part of this responsibility Cashel Town Council provides the following services and programmes,
Public Lighting - The provision and maintenance of public lighting is carried out by Cashel Town council. Cashel Town Council also provides the Christmas lighting on the town centre streets over the Christmas period.
Road Maintenance - Included in the road maintenance programme are street sweeping, weedkilling, salting of roads in winter, maintenance of road surface and maintenance of road markings.

Street Cleaning

Cashel Town Council carry out daily street sweeping of the town on a year round basis. This service is important to the overall appearance of the town. There are approximately 60 litter bins provided by the Town Council at different locations in Cashel.

Road Opening Information

One of the Roads Departments responsibilities is to ensure that our roads and footpaths are safe and suitable for public use.
A "Road" includes footpaths, verges and carriageways.
A Road Opening Licence is required for:
Connection to Water Main
Connection to Sewer
ESB
Telecom
Pipe laying etc.

Cashel Town Council requires that any person/company who wishes to open up a section of public road or footpath obtain a Road Opening Licence before carrying out any work. This is to ensure that all openings carried out are reinstated properly and are therefore safe for public use.
An application form: Road Opening Application should be completed in full along with the following:
A fee of €125 should be paid to the Council Ordnance survey map indicating the location
A copy of the Public Liability Insurance Policy
If the proposed works restricts traffic, a traffic management plan may be required indicating the measures which will be taken to facilitate the safe flow of traffic including pedestrians.
